NSFW animal-mating demos are just one of of the attractions of a weekend-long love-fest sponsored by the Heart of Brooklyn, the partnership of cultural institutions near Grand Army Plaza. On Saturday, it’s love, family-style for stories and card decoration at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s “I love you because…” from 11:30 to 12:30 and 2:30 to 3:30. On Sunday, you can take free old-fashioned trolley rides through the neighborhood and Prospect Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or glide hand-in-hand at Wollman Rink with half-priced admission from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. The Prospect Park Zoo is offering some less-wholesome (but still perfectly natural) amusement in their “Animal Dating and Mating” program from 2 to 3:30, which explores reproductive strategies, “why size really does matter” and a live animal demo! See HOB’s complete list of V-weekend events and attractions here.

Hop on the Prospect Heights party bus Saturday night

If Hungarian gypsy tones make you hungry or if mustache-making sessions make you want to wet your own, just walk outside the Target First Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum tomorrow evening and take a look around. That’s Prospect Heights you see, and the neighborhood has plenty of its own diversions, from the drinks at Franklin Park Bar or the chicken at El Gran Castillo de Jagua. To help with your local exposure, Heart of Brooklyn (ever the BK ambassador) has launched the HOB Connection—a free shuttle bus to local food, drinks and shopping on every Target First Saturday at the museum. The shuttle leaves the museum at 5 p.m., and makes half-hour loops through neighborhood strips until 11. More info and full schedule here.

If you think the Carousel, zoo and acres of romp-worthy fields make Prospect Park a child-friendly place, well… you’re right, and there’s about to be more for the summer. Starting today, and on every Friday through August, the park will host Heart of Brooklyn’s Family Fridays, a weekly day of animals, education and snacks at the park’s Children’s Corner (entrance at Ocean Ave., Flatbush Ave. & Empire Blvd.).
