So… you’re packing up your summer whites, disassembling the AC unit, already wistful for the humidity-drenched days of yore. Well, we have a cure for the impending winter blues, and it’s an investment into your not-so-distant future: next spring. Because it’s time to plant some daffodils. Everywhere. The Daffodil Project, a living 9/11 memorial to beautify NYC neighborhoods, is giving out daffodil bulbs, and they need to be planted—by us, by you, by anyone you can grab off the street. Historic deals: Gay wedding discounts ahoy!
If the rainbow-colored jubilation we saw across the city this weekend is any indication, this is first of many celebratory deals we expect to be seeing this summer: Not to be outdone by Boing Boing’s lesbian moms deal, our friends at Rose Red & Lavender in Williamsburg tell us they’re now offering a 10 percent discount on flower arrangements for their first 10 LGBT weddings. Weddings, flowers, pomp, circumstance — it’s like the gays are just like everyone else after all!
We want to hear about more of these deals, since there’s going to be a lot of new wedding business to compete for after gay marriage goes into effect July 24. Send us all your LGBT deals to tim [at] Brokelyn [dot] com, or add them to the comments, and we’ll post them here. All gay everything!
Rose Red & Lavender is located at 653 Metropolitan Ave. in Williamsburg. Read the rest of this entry »

We’re loving the new Prospect Heights coupon book full of deals at the fun shops and restaurants along Washington and Vanderbilt avenues. The booklet (left), published by non-profit Heart of Brooklyn, is not only a genius idea, it also looks cute. Inside are 46 coupons that map out a day well-spent (literally) in PH. Flower-shop challenge: make us a $10 bouquet
Anyone who’s walked by a grocer in the spring knows it’s possible to get a handful of stems for $10—especially if you like carnations. But we had no idea what exotica that budget could afford until we sent one of our favorite photo-writer bloggers, Amy Melson, to five Brooklyn florists to find out. Sticking to it wasn’t easy, considering that these folks try, when possible, to include locally grown, organic flowers, which cost up to three times as much as the grocery-store kind.
