Full Circle Bar, awaiting your skeelz
Our friends over at Brooklynauts are giving you a chance to redeem your skeeballin’ points for more than just mustache combs or ladybug erasers. This Sunday from 5-8, they’re hosting a Skee for MD fundraiser for muscular dystrophy at Williamsburg’s skee-tastic Full Circle Bar (a Brokelyn-certified Beer Book bar!). All proceeds from the $1-a-play skee-ball lanes, along with $1 from each drink and raffle ticket sales go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the non-profit dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases. The list of amazing prizes includes 10 drinks at Brooklyn Brewery and some NuNu Chocolates.
And since this is Brooklyn and no party is complete without cupcakes, Kumquat Cupcakery will be giving away their delicious baked goods for the duration of the fundraiser. The event is free, but make sure to bring your wrist guards to avoid skee-related injuries.
Is backyard chickening really the hot new Brooklyn trend right now, or is it just more media hype about how adorably out there our outer borough is? We’ll judge the answer based on how popular this post is: Brooklyn Brewery is giving away spent grain at its brewery until 3pm today and from 9am-3pm tomorrow. Yup, grain used for the beer you drank when you decided it might be a good idea to own chickens, now available to feed said chickens. Sounds like a deal that can’t be beak.
Greenpointers this week green-points us (see what I did there?) to another huge Insound Warehouse sale today from 5-8pm, where you can browse bargain bins of vinyls, save on new and classic LPs and snag some promo goodies. But also: free booze from Brooklyn Brewery! Everything you need to know in the flyer to the left.

TONIGHT!!
You’ve watched the buildup, you’ve seen us gathering up the best spring offerings in Brooklyn, and now tonight is the night: The Brokelyn Country Club Spring Gala! Come dance on the grave of cruel cold winter at Public Assembly with us and you could walk away with some great prizes to help get your spring into high gear (tattoos anyone? Beer? Yoga? a new bike?!). The party starts at 8 and the open bar from Brooklyn Brewery and Brooklyn Gin lasts until 9pm. Much thanks to all our raffle sponsors and our partner, Scoutmob, for helping us put together our best spring party evah. Check out details on all the prizes you could win below. Don’t forget your springiest outfit, because, like a real country club, you can show your style by popping that collar as high as it will go. Read the rest of this entry »

This is the latest in our series on the venues featured in the Brokelyn Beer Book. Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg needs little endorsement. When you’re out and about on a warm weekend, stop in for a drink or for a brewery tour to see what’s behind the beloved label.

The Phenomenal Handclap Band, via myspace
One of our favorite things about Brooklyn is how much we, in Brooklyn, love bringing attention to our favorite things, in Brooklyn. Enter Brooklyn Bowl, which already gets props for its huge concert area, local beer dedication, and hyper-eco-friendly operations and food choices. Now it’s stepping up its support of all things locally grown with a FREE monthly concert series/arts and culture showcase.
The event, called Local X Local, kicks off this Sunday night, Feb. 21, with locals The Phenomenal Handclap Band, which, true to its name, is quite good and hand-clappy to boot (Check out their jam “You’ll Disappear”).
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE: RSVP via the Facebook and you get a $2 draft special on Brooklyn Brewery lager from 7 to 10 p.m. And then there’s all the other non-music stuff that night to love about Brooklyn too. Read the rest of this entry »

You’ve been to Prospect Park 271 times already, done the once-a-year loop of Coney Island and Brighton Beach and spent way too many Sundays at Fairway. Another summer weekend is just four days away (Monday’s kinda fun when you think of it like that). So where’s that dang list of all those wonderful Brooklyn places you said you were going to visit this year, for real? We found it for you. Read the rest of this entry »

Drink with Rob and Jad? Yes please!
Dispensing with sarcasm here because THIS MIGHT BE ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS WE’VE EVER POSTED: On Tuesday, two awesome forces will combine in an explosion of radicalness when WNYC’s all-things-brilliant show Radiolab sets up a shop at Brooklyn Brewery, and they’re looking for volunteers to help! In exchange for some manual labor, hosts Robert Krulwich (swoon, nerds) and MacArthur Genius Grant winning Jad Abumrad (swoon, ladies) will buy you a beer. There’s only room for about 100 volunteers, so RSVP right now by emailing radiolab@wnyc.org with “RSVP” in the subject line. We called the Brewery to get the details, and they told us Radiolab isn’t doing a show there, but is just using the space to set up some lights and equipment for their upcoming roadshow. So you don’t get to see Radiolab in action, but you do get to mingle with a guy who won a genius grant, which, let’s be honest, is like 10 master’s degrees combined.
