Look for ways to do good in Brooklyn and you’ll feel like you’re at Smorgasburg with five bucks in-hand: So much choice, such meager resources. But what if someone came to you and said “Here, take these food tickets, have a ball. And, oh yeah, you’ll also be helping out 35,000 needy Brooklyn folks”? That’s sort of what we’re offering here: Brokelyn’s teaming up with CAMBA, one of BK’s largest nonprofits, to give away two pairs of Cyclones fun packs (including tickets, a Cyclones cap, hot dog, chips and drink) for a CAMBA benefit/Brooklyn Cyclones game July 28. Ok, listen up: Since you are such an awesome Brokelyn reader, we’re going to let you in on a little secret going down in a secret location in Gowanus that will be a ruckus-y good time. Clear your plans for May 21; you might want to cancel anything on Sunday too, for good measure. There’s an event going down, starting at 9pm: the Underground Rebel Bingo Club. It’s a reinvention of the classic grandma game, a night of pure greatness where you can joyously hold that bingo marker while dancing, drinking and winning fun stuff. Dubbed Wedding Crashers, the event is a one-stop spot to meet Brooklyn-centric caterers, bands, florists, dress designers and the like, this Saturday (Jan. 9) at the Bell House. Pick up tips on everything from DIY cermonies to food-and-wine pairings. More than 30 Brooklyn vendors will share their wedding wisdom during a handful of informational sessions. (“Catering on a Budget” is at 12:45—we’re so there!)
Full-day tickets are $40 a person, and we’ve got a pair to give away. Email us by Friday (Jan. 8th) noon at weddings@brokelyn.com with your favorite budget wedding tip (for possible use in an upcoming feature), and we’ll pick a winner. He’s doing a DJ set under alter ego The Abstract, with other friends in tow. Celebrate at one of our favorite new venues of 2009 with one of our favorite members of A Tribe Called Quest. No word on whether Bonita Applebum will make an appearance, but our tickets—normally $35 a piece if you could actually still buy any—get you in the door from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. (or until you “pass out,” according to our friend Justin at BB.) Move over, First Saturdays—Third Wednesdays are here. This Wednesday, October 21, from 6:30 to 9, Prospect Park’s Picnic House will be the locale for the Lullwater Lounge Third Wednesday: a monthly pop-up happy hour where you can spend an evening looking out on the long meadow, drink in hand. Or shall we say drinks: tickets ($20 in advance/$25 at the door) are good for an entire night’s worth of open bar (sponsors include Brooklyn Brewery and The Famous Grouse whiskey) and snacks from Mambo. But we’ve wangled a free pair for one randomly-selected Brokelyn reader who joins our very own email list between now and Monday midnight.
