As you may have heard, Trader Joe’s and Urban Outfitters are getting a new neighbor, and his name is Barney. Come this September, Barneys Co-op will open up a new location on Atlantic and Court, solidifying Atlantic Avenue as Brooklyn’s upscale shopping destination. In case you’re wondering if this is a good thing or a bad thing for Brooklyn, and what, really, the difference is between Barneys New York and Barneys Co-op, let’s call the Co-op the artsy little sister. Via Racked, first Look at Barneys Warehouse sale

The folks over at Racked are a little more dedicated to bargain hunting today at the Barneys Warehouse sale, and by “dedicated” we mean “willing to wait in line at a godforsaken hour in the morning for shoes that still cost more than our entire paycheck.” But props to them for getting in front of the store at 6:59 (!) a.m., subversive live-blogging apparati in tow, so we can get the scoop on just how crazy people get at the idea of discounted Miu Miu bags. How to survive tomorrow’s Barneys Warehouse Sale

Warning: this post isn’t for everyone. But if you’re a designer-label obsessive and you still have disposable income (congrats!), get to bed early tonight. Tomorrow, starting at 8 a.m., is the first day of the biannual Barneys Warehouse Sale, which is the retail scrum of the year for bargain-loving fashionites, with clothing, shoes, accessories and housewares marked 50 to 75 percent off.

Bargains being a relative term, of course. Last year, on a magazine mission to find Christian Louboutins at the sale, I scouted a pair of red patent ankle-strap stilettos for $310 (originally $780), white patent wedges for $260 ($625), and camel slingbacks for $230 ($625). And so on. There were also loads of Miu Miu, Prada, Lanvin and YSL shoes, also for less than half the original prices. Read the rest of this entry »
