The only thing people love more than summer is complaining about summer. “Everyone’s making fun of me for wearing jorts,” “This show is sold out,” “Wahhh, it smells like hot garbage everywhere.” Well… quit the whining, because we’re giving you something good: two tickets to see art punk noisemakers Liars at the Northside Festival this Saturday, June 26. And we’ll throw in the band’s complete five-album discography (together, an $80+ value). Happy now?

TO ENTER: Email liars@brokelyn.com by Friday, Jun. 25 at noon. We’ll randomly pick a lucky winner. And remember, you have to be an e-mail subscriber to win. Not a subscriber? Sign-up here: it’s a long and arduous process that will ask you personal questions we will send directly to the US Government’s Ministry of Internet Omnipotence (psyche! Now we’re being liars).

Don’t forget that Liars’ last three albums have gotten the illustrious “Best New Music” stamp from Pitchfork, including this year’s effort, Sisterworld, which is a creepy slice of rock that will likely show up on a lot of “Best Of” lists at the end of the year. They also have a political bent to their art, with one of their newest music videos shedding light on the evils of… rocks. Opening for Liars at Newton Barge Park on Saturday will be indie pop mavens High Places and everyone’s favorite hardcore band Fucked Up.

And if you don’t win (but we know you will), don’t cry the hardcore tears, because a four-day pass to Northside is just $40 (20 percent off) with this handy promo code, courtesy of our brokester-in-arms the skint. Northside just might be the best bang for your buck out of all the summer festivals, with four days of music from over one hundred bands, art installations and even a film festival all taking place in Greenpoint and Williamsburg. And unlike some other festivals that take resorting to creative income to afford, you won’t be paying for the privilege of getting groped by some hedge fund stooge who’s psyched to see the Dave Mathews Band, brah.

So… subscribe to Brokelyn here and email liars@brokelyn.com by Friday at noon to enter.

What are you doing to celebrate luuuurve day? Yes, we know some of you will be toasting to amore with some of the finest beers in the borough, thanks to the Brokelyn Beer Book. What if you don’t have an amore to share the love with? Our pals at the skint have put together an excellent and extensive roundup of great events across the city in the next few days, incuding a pajama-clad Meatup at the Bell House (dance floor makeout forecast: 100 percent), dinner deals, high-tech sex seminars and a bunch of places to go to commiserate with the fellow broken-hearted.

Among our favorites: an animal dating and mating program at Prospect Zoo, including a live-animal demo (!!); and a short-movie festival at 3rd Ward with three-minute films all featuring three things: a reference to at least one of the three wise monkeys, a celebrity death and something uncontrollable. Then there’s the un-lovey-dovey stuff, like the Rejection Show at the Bell House and the free Wake for Love and Relationship Obituary open mic at the Knitting Factory.

Check the whole list here.

With the onset of December comes the full-face rush towards the holidays that even your perpetually sarcastic and snarky bloggers are powerless to resist. So let’s jump right in to the noggy pool and see what’s going on around town, shall we?

Today is the first annual NYC Bloggers Do the Holidays Roundup organized by Manhattan User’s Guide, wherein 13 of the city’s bloghounds across different fields give you a rundown of holiday happenings, deals, outings, history and music. (But not 14 blogs? It’s fine, whatever, we’re not hurt, we’ll just sit quietly in the corner and keep knitting these dryer-lint mittens.)

Our buddies over at Brooklyn Based and The Skint were included, and their tips are solid as ever for the enterprising budget-conscious holiday reveler.

BB rounds up an off-beat collection of holiday outings, including a collection of Sesame Street Christmas moments showing at BAMcinemaTek and the best neighborhoods for gawking at holiday lights, as well as other craft fairs and a philosophy lecture aiming to prove the existence of Santa.

The Skint gives you its 30 Days of Skintmas (a new holiday we can all get behind), with a month’s worth of cheap or free things to do. Some of our favorites include: donating lightly worn shoes to get 30 percent off a new pair at the Adidas holiday shoe-swap event (plus cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and giveaways!); drinking a fancy foreign beer at Rolf’s for under a tenner; viewing the original hand-edited manuscript for Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” They also tell you where to get your 2010 NYC firefighter calendar signed for free, if you’re in to that sort of thing, which according to every woman we’ve ever talked to, lots of people are.
