If it seems we’re on a fitness kick here with the last few raffle prizes, well… we are. Who doesn’t want to look, and feel, their best when they’re out and about, living it up—posing for posterity or dressed to the nines for the big premiere? And anyway, we’ll be indulging you all just plenty tomorrow night. But to stretch all this good health and well-being thing just a bit further, for our next RAFFLE OF THE CENTURY prize, we’re offering up an hour of Pilates with Art of Fitness owner and director Kristine Petrucione. Tonight, sweat it out with free Pilates

It’s a little difficult to recommend anything outdoors this week, but we’ll just put the stuff out there, and you gauge the risk. Tonight, Jul. 6, the Fitness Guru is holding a free hour-long Pilates mat class in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The park’s Conservancy runs a slew of events and programs (some of which, you might have heard of), and this is the first of the weekly Tuesday-night Pilates classes that continue through August. The 7 p.m. classes are open to all skill-levels, and they’re held at Pier 1. Registration, which is required, starts at 6:30. And you can “rent” a free mat with ID. Who knows? With the heat, it could be a private lesson. More info here.

Guide to January yoga deals in Brooklyn
You’ve resolved to get in better shape in mind and body. You’ve also resolved to spend less money. You have not resolved to start running outside when it’s 10 degrees. (Maybe next year.) For yoga aficionados, January is the season of deals—and have we got one for you! Actually, you’ll have to wait until next week to find out about Brokelyn’s exclusive offer of unreasonably inexpensive yoga, dance and family fitness classes at a studio we LOVE. In the mean time, here’s a sampler of what’s in various other neighborhoods around town, and a tip: take the money you save and buy a mat now. Rental is always about $1, which quickly adds up to the price of just buying your own, and you’ll never have to wonder what else is sharing the mat with you. Read the rest of this entry »
Prospect Park West author in touch with her inner cheapskate

Amy Sohn.
By now you’ve heard all about Amy Sohn’s devil-wears-mom-jeans satire Prospect Park West, which is kicking up controversy among the Connecticut Muffin crowd. Tonight the author braves the flying organic heirlooms with a reading tonight at Cobble Hill’s Book Court, where all of our favorite writers seem to be turning up these days. (Holla Anna Jane Grossman next Monday!). We asked Amy for her favorite local bargains, not because they have much to do with her novel, whose characters seem rather more status-obsessed than their creator, but because… that’s what we do.
