Hire her, Martha.

For Briana Campbell, a.k.a MatchGirl of Unemployed Brooklyn fame (remember her?) desperate times are calling for some creative and crafty measures. Briana, a Greenpoint bloger who has turned being unemployed into a full-time job, is still without paid work, and now she’s taking a new, and hit-me-over-the-head-with-it, approach toward securing her dream gig of working for Martha Stewart. The result? Hire Me Martha, Briana’s month-and-half-old blog devoted solely to getting hired by the food/home/craft/wedding/pets empire that is Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.

In October, reflecting upon her past year of unemployment, Briana took stock of her skills, interests and passions, and decided to start a new blog that would serve as her online audition for Martha:

“I want to be doing things that I enjoy. I want to be able to work in a creative environment and get to be creative and to be surrounded by creative people. I want to work somewhere where creativity and a passion for all things creative (crafts, arts, sewing, baking cooking, gardening) is the status quo. And that’s hard to find, even in New York. Many of you have messaged me or e-mailed me to attempt to get me a connection at her company, and I really appreciate it. Many of you have said that she is a bitch, but the simple fact of the matter is that I’ve worked for a bunch of real tough people, and taken a lot of crap, and not one of them was as successful (or had really any excuse for being so rude, except that power had gone to their heads) as Martha Stewart. And, a few of you have said that she has a hiring freeze (which is probably very true—so many places do!), but that can’t last forever, can it?”

The blogger transformed her “FUNemployment” blog to “Hire Me Martha,” an ongoing campaign to showcase her passion for crafts, baking and all things Martha-oriented. In her 12 posts so far, Briana has featured a colorful array of handmade originals like a re-purposed vinyl bag, stuffed elephants for kids, vintage-bicycle wallpaper and most recently, artistic portraits of her Thanksgiving dinner. Then there’s also the weekly post about “how much I want to work for Martha and the reasons that she should hire me,” Briana writes.

Though Campbell’s dedicated blog campaign isn’t the most traditional route toward employment, blogs have opened many a career door in the recent past—and not only for Julia-Child obsessives. A few months ago, Radosh.net author Daniel Radosh was hired for the Daily Show on the basis of a blog post.

So far Briana hasn’t heard back from Martha or anyone from her empire (neither have we) but she did score a ticket to the taping of Martha’s Brooklyn show a few weeks back. “Martha was everything I had hoped she would be,” the blogger reported. “Please no jokes about insider trading or that you know she’s a bitch—she was totally self-deprecating and professional (and, once or twice, funny).” Let’s hope her HR people have a sense of humor too—fingers crossed that Briana’s next blog will be called Employed in Brooklyn.

Martha Stewart was all up in the Brooklyn Flea in DUMBO on this gorgeous Sunday, tasting some goodies and generally causing a big commotion with her camera crew, entourage and French bulldogs in tow. But what brought the queen of home craftiness into the county of Kings?

Turns out she’s doing a whole hour on Brooklyn, which may also include her stops at Marlow and Sons, Marlow and Daughters, a rooftop garden and some of the different food factories. Her posse said the show (doubly titled Martha: The Martha Stewart Show) is supposed to air Nov. 10, though it’s subject to change. “We love Brooklyn,” she gushed to us (but only because we stalked her all afternoon) after sampling the wares from a handful of vendors. So which ones will make the TV cut?

Martha wouldn’t say, but her schedule offered a few clues. She showed up at 1:40 p.m. with a Brooklyn Map tote in hand and her two dogs, the French bulldogs Sharkey and Francesca, along with her niece, Sophie Herbert (who lives in Brooklyn). After interviewing flea organizers Eric Demby and Jonathan Butler (below, rocking his Brownstoner sweatshirt), she headed over to  Salvatore Bklyn to sample some ricotta and prosciutto sandwiches.

Owner Betsy Mark Devine said Stewart called the food “delicious” but didn’t say much else. Stewart then made the rounds to McClure’s Pickles, Rick’s Picks, Fine and Raw Chocolates, Pizza Moto (which smelled tortuously delicious to your humble penniless blogger and photographer), Red Hook Lobster Pound, Red Hook Food Vendors, Asia Dog, People’s Pops, the Flea Design Coop and Blue Marble Ice Cream.

At Asia Dog, Stewart tried the Mel and Steve, an Asian sesame slaw concoction, while Sophie had the Ginny, a kimchi dog with seaweed flakes. Martha refused to play favorites. “It would be very cruel for me to judge,” she said. “We ate everything.”

There was only a tiny bit of heckling from the crowd, with the words “fucking ridiculous” uttered several times by a disgruntled bystander observing her large entourage and associated gawkers in front of Asia Dog. But most of the crowd was a sea of snapping digital cameras and iPhones. “She did time,” said an admirer. “She’s got street cred.”

As it happens, Stewart also has a bit of Brokelyn cred. “I’m a very frugal person—I love Costco,” she confessed. Really? The woman whose web site recently polled readers: Which of Martha Stewart’s homes would you most like to visit? (Skylands obvs.)

When pressed on her skinflinty ways, she revealed that she frequently wears hand-me-downs. “I don’t have very many clothes,” she told us. “And I wear clothes for years and years and years. I’ve had these boots for eight years.” Guess who’s invited to our next clothing swap!

Martha is bringing her skillz to BK

Everyone loves the Brooklyn Flea—Thurston Moore, Neil Patrick Harris, that guy from Flight of the Conchords, and now… Martha Stewart!

We’ve got confirmation from two different vendors that the wreath-making-one herself is going to be popping in to the Fort Greene flea market on Saturday to film an episode of her show, the eponymously named Martha. Vendors said her staff stopped by on a recent weekend to sample some of the items and scope the place out.  She normally shoots at Chelsea Studios on West 26th Street, so she’s not that far away to begin with.

We’ve never actually watched Martha’s show, so our ability for witty comments here is a bit stunted, but we know it involves a lot of cooking and craftiness and homemade whatsitdodads. Maybe the Brooklyn Flea is the jumping-off point for Martha’s home-decorating-on-the-cheap campaign? Perhaps some well-deserved love for all those DIY craftoholics that sell their wares each weekend? Maybe she’s trying to show that daytime audience where to get a rare 70s femullet track suit doll?
