Where to go for a great curly cut in Brooklyn?

picture-394Reader Dina is looking for a Park Slope or Prospect Heights alternative to Devachan—the  curlcentric salon in SoHo. “I have tried so many places, but few deliver,” Dina writes, adding that so far she’s been happiest with Kim at Medusa. We’ve recommended Jeffrey at the Beehive (though a commenter disagreed) and heard good things about wave management at SlopeSuds, but would like to put this to our spiral-tressed sistren and brethren. Anyone?

If you have curly hair, there’s a decent chance you’ve wound up at Devachan, the Manhattan salon with a weirdly effective method of cutting and styling curly hair (cutting it dry then washing it, blotting with paper towels, lecturing the customer on the evils of shampoo). Not to get all Allure Magazine on you people, but here’s a pesky question I ask once a day, while lathering up with a dollar-an-ounce conditioner, imagining there must be a better way. What’s the best cheap conditioner? Is there some scraggly-hair salvation in those elephantine jugs of Suave and Pantene at Costco? Is there a secret drugstore brand that’s worth its weight in jojoba oil? So, Broketown, I put it to you. Speak your truth in the comments. Bonus points if your before hair looks like Phil Spector’s (cause you need ‘em).
