Sort of like “cash for clunkers” for denim, Gap’s smack in the middle of an incentivized recycling program for your jeans. Bring an old pair of jeans, of any brand, to a Gap store through Wednesday, Oct. 20, and Gap will give take 30 percent off a new pair from their 1969 collection. Go one step further and “like” Gap on Facebook, and 30 percent turns to 40. The program, called Recycle Your Blues, isn’t only to refresh your drawers—all donated jeans will be used as home-insulation to keep people warm this winter. Monk’s Trunk, a children’s resale shop opening this fall in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, wants to stock its shelves your kids’ old stuff—and they’re paying. If you’ve been saving everything of junior’s out of an over-developed sense of sentimentality, we understand… really, we do. What happens when you gather all the cutest merchandise one could possibly find and put it in one store for sale? You get Fred Flare (left) The brand with the ultimate cute factor has been an online shop for over 10 years, with affordable and stylish findings: clothing, accessories, home goods, etc. But they just recently opened a physical location in Greenpoint. If you’re anything like some of us around here, you’vre got an eye for designer fashion but a wallet that doesn’t stretch past the clearance racks.
We’d heard good things (and some not so good things) about American Place, a six-store chain stretching across South Brooklyn, not to be confused with the creepy doll store or the perv-owned t-shirt company. After seeing some stylish evidence firsthand, we decided to stop into the McDonald Avenue location, right outside the Avenue P train station on the F line.
American Place houses items from Marc Jacobs to Burberry to Versace, all marked down at least 40%. At first glance, it looks a bit shabby and abandoned, set amid McDonald Avenue’s unglamorous mechanic shops and lumber stores.
