Bklyn Yard’s opening trifecta: food trucks, clothes swap, dance party

Parked_eflyercropThis three-day weekend, Gowanus’ Brooklyn Yard is back in business, with three big events to meet all your basic needs: food, clothes and… techno-funk dance party! Rounding out the weekend on Mem Day itself  (but we’ll start with it) is the Gowanus Food Truck Festival. We’re proud to put the Brokelyn name behind this convergence of the borough’s favorite curbside treats. Read the rest of this entry »

An app for gourmet on-the-go

Picture 2Fancy food trucks are practically de rigeur in NY these days, with the high-quality likes of Schnitzel & Things, Van Leeuwen and Eurotrash getting attention all over the city’s most esteemed media outlets. But how to find that nearest four-star truck when you’re dashing to your retail late-shift, tired of showing up smelling like gyros and tzaziki? Well, now, as they say, there’s an app for that. I Love Street Eats is a free iPhone application that shows recent locations of gourmet meal trucks selling everything from Tex-Mex to Belgian waffles. It’s currently available in NY and seven other cities around the U.S., and it relies on vendors to update their locations daily. And if you can’t afford an iPhone, the Website has all the info too.

Whoopie pies from the Sweetery.

You know how much we like Tenka — the food deal site where everything’s free. (They like us too because they advertise on our site.) In case you haven’t partaken, there’s still time to pocket and redeem most of the coupons for Tenka’s Virtual Food Truck Festival, where you can get FREE ice cream, burgers, dumplings, cupcakes, pizza, and more at food trucks around the city. You “pocket” the coupon on your smart phone, then flash it at the food truck for your chow. Just be sure to check each truck’s daily coordinates in their Twitter feed before you head over, and doublecheck the Tenka site to make sure the deal is still available.
