It’s no secret that Brokelyn has a well-documented pro-outdoor summer movie bias. So here’s your chance to join a team that gives us something to look forward to during those bleak winter months: the Volunteer Film Committee for Syfy Movies With A View at Brooklyn Bridge Park is looking for new members! The group is made of film buffs, film professors, professionals and dedicated amateurs who meet three times during the winter to debate the film choices for the season. Today, AT&T flipped the service on in two more: Pier 1 at Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Picnic House at Prospect Park (along with Marcus Garvey Park in Manhattan in Harlem, where you can go for some non-BK marathon watching). Fort Greene and Herbert Von King parks are slated to get wifi next. Do you hear that giant sucking sound? That’s the sound of the waning days of summer being drained into the chilly fall basin. But instead of storing your energy just to complain about snow and cold, you should be spending it taking advantage of the sweet free summer offerings before it’s too late. If you like horror movies, grab a date and forRosemary’s Baby at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Thursday or the equally terrifying Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never on the beach at Coney Island on Tuesday. Wednesday gives us another Secret Science Club at The Bell House on the topic “Flower Power!” Free music this week includes Wavves and Dum Dum Girls at East River Park on Thursday, with the House of Vans playing host to Converge and Touche Amore on Wednesday (get there early!). If all that is getting you stressed for the end of summer, you can always relax with free Community Warm Yoga class at Sacred on Saturday.

Nothing gets us as excited for summer as when all the free event listings start filling the inbox, and today we got news on one of the best: the nine free movies that will be shown at Brooklyn Bridge Park from July 17-Sept. 1, all of which are New York themed. Before long, thoughts of digging out your doorstep day after day will seem like ludicrous nightmares as we recline on a blanket under the humid stars, pull snacks from a picnic basket and revel in Woody Allen’s Manhattan against the beautiful backdrop of the city skyline. The gorgeous park — home to free movies, yoga classes, kayak outings and general good times — may sell naming rights to cover the estimated $16 million annual upkeep, reports NY1. The 85-acre park would be the first time even part of a New York City park carried a sponsor’s name (the idea came from Chicago’s Millennium Park, where sponsors pick up half the cost). Other options being considered to pick up the tab include building more high-rise condos. So we wondered: what name would you want to see on Brooklyn’s showpiece park? Some of our suggestions below:

It’s a little difficult to recommend anything outdoors this week, but we’ll just put the stuff out there, and you gauge the risk. Tonight, Jul. 6, the Fitness Guru is holding a free hour-long Pilates mat class in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The park’s Conservancy runs a slew of events and programs (some of which, you might have heard of), and this is the first of the weekly Tuesday-night Pilates classes that continue through August. The 7 p.m. classes are open to all skill-levels, and they’re held at Pier 1. Registration, which is required, starts at 6:30. And you can “rent” a free mat with ID. Who knows? With the heat, it could be a private lesson. More info here.

You’re surely aware by now of the some of the great stuff the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is responsible for. Where else can you watch iconic films while you picnic under the shadow of an iconic bridge? But did you know the conservancy hosts a bunch of other free programming, like educational classes, park-stewardship events, waterfront workouts, boating, bird-watching and seining the river? Of course, all this doesn’t come cheap. So tonight’s your chance to pitch in at the conservancy fundraiser and ensure the East River gem keeps the pleasant nights flowing for years to come.

The conservancy’s Junior Committee is hosting the Twilight Swing Cocktail Party, tonight at 9 at Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO. There’s going to be trapeze artists and food from DUB Pies, Brooklyn Fare, Pete’s Downtown, 7 Old Fulton Wine Bar and Front Street Pizza—all in all, more than enough for a party.

It’ll cost you a little bit of coin—$25 in advance, $30 at the door—but your ticket comes with two drinks, hors d’oeuvres and dessert. Plus, you’ll have the satisfaction of investing in a group that puts together some mega-cool free events in what we have no qualms about calling the most scenic spot around. That’s right: eat it, Lady Liberty. Project Lebowski from that torch and then maybe we’ll talk.

Sponsored by the Syfy channel, this is the outdoor film fest’s 11th year. If you’re a crazy enough cinephile to show up hours beforehand to snag the good spots, DJ’s from Brooklyn Radio will entertain you until the sun goes down and the movie, preceded by a short film chosen by BAM cinematek, begins. The last few summers’ line-ups have been themed, but this summer’s decidedly skitzo offerings, from Annie Hall to Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D, promise something for everyone. Thursdays, Jul. 8 to Sep. 2. Movies start at sundown.

Summer Screen at McCarren Park
If the promise of cold beer and free movies isn’t enough to lure you out to brave the neighborhood crowd’s onslaught, this year’s theme of adolescent idols should do the trick. Shamelessly drool over Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze in Point Blank or recoil in horror at David Bowie’s spandex pants in Labyrinth—the choice is yours. Wednesdays, Jul. 7 to Aug. 11. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Movies Under the Stars at Habana Outpost
This seasonal restaurant’s outdoor seating area, complete with picnic tables and umbrellas, normally is for sipping mojitos and munching on Cuban delicacies. But when it’s transformed into a movie theater once a week, it draws a slightly different crowd. The mojitos are still around, though, and they’ll make campy films like Krush Groove, the Run DMC musical, all the more fun. Sundays through Oct. 24.

Celebrate Brooklyn!
Cult and comedy classics get an aural makeover at these screenings, which are part of the larger Celebrate Brooklyn! music fest. Composer and Brooklyn native Carl Davis performs the original scores to three Chaplin comedies (Jul 22), and organ maestro Marco Benevento showcases a new score that he wrote for Roger Corman’s classic adaptation of Poe’s Fall of the House of Usher. Various dates throughout July and August.

Old Stone House
This replica of a 1600s Dutch farmhouse is regularly a museum, but each July offers a short film series in conjunction with local production company FilmWorks Brooklyn. The selections always feature classic Hollywood flicks, with the 1950’s musical Kiss Me Kate and the Harold Lloyd comedy Girl Shy rounding out this summer’s picks. Wednesdays in July.

Narrows Botanical Garden Free Outdoor Movie Series
A more tranquil alternative to the organized insanity of larger outdoor movie screenings (several hundred show up here vs. several thousand at other spots), moviegoers can take in waterside views while watching a variety of films like the classic Joan Crawford melodrama Mildred Pierce and the PIXAR animated feature Finding Nemo. Various Thursdays throughout July and August.

Red Hook Summer Movies
The promise of classy food and waterfront movies should be enough to lure you into braving the B61 to get to Valentino Pier for this off-the-beaten-park series. Movies such as The Goonies and Pirates of the Caribbean are accompanied by various treats, ranging from lobster rolls from Red Hook Lobster Pound to drink specials at nearby Fort Defiance, thanks to sponsorships from local businesses who helped make the film series happen. Plus, there’s gourmet (but affordable!) popcorn for a buck, provided each night by local wine bar Home/Made. Tuesdays, Jul. 13 to Sep. 14. Movies start at 8:30pm.
