It’s Farrah Hair Day, all day, in Williamsburg

Just a reminder that today is Farrah Hair Day at one of our favorite beauty spots, the Beehive Salon in Williamsburg, where you can get a Farrah Fawcett blowout for $50. That sounds like a lot, and yeah it kind of is, but not when the salon is giving half of it to Sanctuary for Families, a New York state group that helps victims of domestic abuse. You may be broke (and you may not be) but that’s no excuse to 1) neglect good causes and 2) not have Farrah Hair. Read the rest of this entry »

How to get Farrah hair in five easy steps

picture-174picture-173In case you forgot, we want to remind you that July is officially Farrah Hair Month, and two Brooklyn salons are marking the occasion by offering Farrah hair blowouts for charity—The Beehive in Williamsburg and Slope Suds in Park Slope. We love this idea—and we’re normally the $20 blowout types. Okay, the air-dry types. But this Friday at The Beehive, and all month at Slope Suds, you pay $50 and they’ll give half of the proceeds to two of Farrah’s favorite causes, cancer research and helping victims of domestic abuse. But not everyone around here has $50 to spend, so here’s how to do it yourself. (Results not guaranteed.) Read the rest of this entry »

Get Farrah hair for two good causes

picture-153What’s the ultimate tribute to our fab, feathered friend? Rocking your own Farrah Fawcett hairdo.

As if that weren’t enough of a contribution to the betterment of society, two Brooklyn salons are offering Farrah blowouts to raise money for the lion-haired legend’s pet causes.

On Friday, July 10, The Beehive Salon in Williamsburg is doing an event called “Feathers for Farrah,” a full-day of $50 Farrah-style blowouts. Half of the proceeds will go to Sanctuary for Families, a New York state group that helps victims of domestic abuse, a cause close to Farrah’s heart. Read the rest of this entry »

Time mag flips out over hipsters, Farrah hair

picture-352There’s a “hipster history” today on Time.com that was clearly designed as Brooklyn blogger bait. In a well-written but overly high-minded account of hipsterdom’s imminent demise, Dan Fletcher writes:

Hipsters are the friends who sneer when you cop to liking Coldplay. They’re the people who wear t-shirts silkscreened with quotes from movies you’ve never heard of and are the only ones in America who still think Pabst Blue Ribbon is a good beer…

We’re going to resist jumping into the fray, cause even though hipsters “attract a loathing unique in its intensity,” according to Fletcher, we can’t get all that worked up about them. (Love ‘em! God’s children!) But while you’re at Time.com, take a few minutes to watch a nice video Valerie Lapinski did at the Beehive Salon’s recent Feathers For Farrah fundraiser, an event that we flogged relentlessly. Above, adorable Brokelyn reader Serena Bartha shows off her flip in the vid.
