You can buy beer brewing kits at the Brooklyn Flea. There is talk of a Homebrewer Store opening up this coming year.

Good news! It is cheaper to make your own beer, and there is now a place to get homebrewing supplies in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Brew Shop opened last month as part of the Brooklyn Flea, and we sell one gallon all-grain kits for $40. If you end up liking it and want to keep going, it's $12 per bag of grain/hops/yeast, so it comes out to just about $1 per bottle for really tasty beer. Check us out if you're interested Saturdays in Fort Greene and Sundays in Dumbo if you want to make some beer!

Saving money through homebrewing - one beer at a time?
Perhaps, but it's not a good short-term strategy to pinch some pennies. You'll definitely be getting tastier beer for your buck out of your efforts compared to retail beers and over the course of a month or few you'll definitely start catching up. Plus, it's fun - think of your brew day as an opportunity to share your new hobby with friends and have a few beers. What's not to like?

Cleaning bottles is supposed much easier with a bottle washer, they're like 12 bucks, and storing easier with a bottle tree, maybe like 40 bucks. I just finished my first batch. Yum! Don't forget, it's also pretty time intensive. Maybe 6 hours of total work, and about 3 weeks of waiting!

If you're making your own beer, be aware that cleaning and storing bottles is a major hassle.
